We’ve been down and out with some strong colds for almost a week now. My favorite activity during these times of illness? Movie watching. Heck, it’s one of my favorite anytime activities, but seems so much sweeter with the sickies. This time around, DreamWorks Animation & Pearl Studio’s Abominable has been on constant repeat and we’ve even found ourselves humming the magical song of Everest at rest time.

From the studio that brought you How to Train Your Dragon, this heartwarming and humorous story follows teenage Yi (Chloe Bennet) as she encounters a young Yeti on the roof of her apartment building in China, she and her mischievous friends, Jin (Norgay Trainor) and Peng (Albert Tsai), name him “Everest” and embark on an epic quest to reunite the creature with his family at the highest point on Earth. But the trio of friends have to stay one-step ahead of Burnish (Eddie Izzard), a wealthy man intent on capturing a Yeti, and zoologist Dr. Zara (Sarah Paulson) to help Everest get home.  Their magical adventure takes us across the vastness of China and explores important themes of what it means to be a family.

Despite not being a sparkly princess story, Abominable is now one of our top movies on rotation and looks to remain there for quite some time. I love nothing more than a strong female lead and Yi is just that. She knows what she must do and will not rest into her mission is completed, come villains or giant blueberries. You just have to see it.

There is also so much fun stuff in the Bonus Features! Meet The Cast, get an inside look at Everest’s Talk Box, a deeper look at the locations Yi visits in An Abominable Tour With Chloe Bennet and, of course, Deleted Scenes.

Abominable is available now on Digital, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray™, and DVD from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
