The little ladies and I were invited to check out the afternoon tea the Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, CA. But it wasn’t just any tea party….it featured the happiest little creatures the world has ever know – the Trolls from DreamWorks Animation’s film by the same name.  In case you missed out on the 2016 animated feature film, Trolls, 2017’s Trolls Holiday short film or the Netflix Original Trolls: The Beat Goes On, these are upgraded versions of the toys you may have had growing up.  They are currently ruled by the aggressively-benevolent, scrapbook-loving, singing-dancing sensation, Queen Poppy.  Tala and I were so thrilled to meet her on our visit!

The tables were set beautifully, complete with tailor-made Wedgewood teaware, fresh roses, sparkly confetti and a custom cookie with my name on it. Let’s hear it for attention to detail! To help keep small hands busy, Olivia was also given an activity sheet with crayons. Each of our settings also included a mystery Troll hair hugger which could also double as a fuzzy slap bracelet or backpack decoration. For someone with longer or thicker hair, it would make a super snazzy hair accessory.  We had fun snapping them on each other….not quite the proper tea etiquette at all, I’m afraid.

We were treated to lovely colorful Trolls-themed delicacies and of course, my daughter opted to try the sweets first! Her plate featured four tea sandwiches:

  • Smoked Turkey Breast with Sliced Swiss
  • Honey Baked Ham and Sliced Cheddar
  • Two Peanut Butter Sandwiches with different jellies

Somehow she managed to sample a bit of everything including an array of desserts!  While her favorite was the Nutella worm basket, she made sure to eat at least one sandwich before partaking in the Hair-Raising Confetti Cupcake.  Other sweets included a Queen Poppy mini donut, White Chocolate Meringue Tart, Flufflberry Crunch Bar, Rainbow Marshmallow on Wafers plus Poppy and Branch Sugar Cookies.

If that wasn’t enough fun already, my plate had some more grown-up flavor combinations that were all wonderful!  The adult plate also consisted of four tea sandwiches, including:

  • Jerk Shrimp with Red Cabbage and Créme Fraiche
  • Asian Pear with Bleu Cheese Mouse
  • Egg Salad with Crisp Prosciutto
  • Pink Cucumber and Blueberry Créme Fraiche

The desserts were equally impressive albeit slightly different. Also present on my plate was a White Chocolate Passion Fruit Gateaux and French Macaron.  I confess, I shared neither.

But what is a tea party without tea?!  Olivia chose fruit-infused Strawberry Kiwi Tea (pink, of course) while I opted for the house Langham Blend (black tea).  They also had a Mint Tea available, which I’m told was very refreshing.  Mama was also able to enjoy a glass of sparkling rosé to round out the experience.

We had the best afternoon and I am so happy that Olivia experienced her first real Tea Party in such a lovely location.  The grounds were beautiful, the staff very friendly and the food was oh, so sweet.  Fans of the movie of any age will be able to enjoy this special tea time.  DreamWorks Trolls Afternoon Tea is currently only scheduled for Sundays in July 2019 by reservation only.
