There is one shopping day left before Christmas…can you believe it?!  When I need to find a last minute gift, I always default to home entertainment.  This year, Universal Pictures’ The War With Grandpa starring Robert De Niro and Oakes Fegley made the cut.  Especially since it just arrived on Blu-Ray and DVD December 22nd and was already available to stream.  You know how I love a movie with a literary tie-in – the film is based on the multi-award-winnig children’s book by the same name from author Robert Kimmel Smith and follows a series of escalating shenanigans that ensue when a grandfather (De Niro) moves in with his daughter (Uma Thurman), forcing his grandson (Fegley) to begrudgingly give up his bedroom.  But Grandpa won’t go without a fight!  Packed with heart and hysterical hijinks, The War With Grandpa is the perfect family comedy that everyone can enjoy during the holidays and beyond.

I loved all the little chuckles that this film brought out, especially after such a crazy year.  De Niro always brings a sense of mischief to his roles and plays each moment flawlessly.  This is a film the whole family can watch together for a good belly laugh!  Yet it’s not all fun and games. “Big sacrifices” were made by many characters in the film and we get a lighthearted look at loss and what it means to be a family.

Along side De Niro, Fegley and Thurman are Cheech Marin, Jane Seymour, Laura Marano and Christopher Walken that bring even more laughs throughout the mischievously funny and charming film.  From director Tim Hill (The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run) and a script by Tom J. Castle (Get Smart) and Matt Ember (Epic), The War With Grandpa is sure to entertain audiences of all ages!
