My love of cooking began back in the second grade when I won first place at my school’s summer book reading contest. The prize was a copy of the For Good Measure: A Cookbook for Children and the first item I ever made by myself was popovers. To this day, that is my go-to recipe for the fluffy goodness! It also marked the beginning of my experiments in the kitchen. From there I made soda bread, shortbread cookies and hidden vegetable Mac ‘n’ Cheese which ultimately led to a love for cooking.

Fast forward 30 years and I am now a busy working mom with a toddler and one more on the way. Time is an asset and healthy food a necessity.  I mean, the less time I have to spend in the car, loading and unloading Olivia AND groceries the better! Sure, there are services available that will go shopping at your favorite store for you, but sometimes it’s nice to try something new. Milk & Eggs online grocery store for Los Angeles and Orange County is that something. It has the basics (as the name implies) with options for organic on many items, locally sourced brands, plus it’s also a specialty store without the steep price tag. Vegan/Vegetarian, Paleo, Keto, Omnivorous and more options abound. And on top of that, it offers meal kits in case you need an easy solution for a weekday meal or DIY date night. When my mom came to visit, you can bet I ordered ahead to give me some extra time to clean the house!

Just browsing through the website makes my mouth water. The selection of fresh fruits alone fills my scent memory with desire. My first order included a fruit & veggie sample box, several raw fresh pressed juices, fish, baked tofu, truffle oil, almond milk, vegan apple sausage. Then I became more adventurous with squidBreakfast Toast with Ladneh ink pasta, (the best ever) soy chorizo, locally made labeneh yogurt, smoked salmon.  And they are always adding new products – I haven’t placed a duplicate order yet. My most recent win was when Milk & Eggs added some Mung Bean Soup to my order as a thank you gift. It just so happened that the Muscle Man requested ramen for dinner. I was able to use that soup as a base for the noodles instead of the sodium and who-knows-what filled envelopes that come in the prepackaged containers. Add in some fresh veggies and chicken and it morphed into a delicious meal.

Here’s how it works: visit www.milkandeggs.com and browse the categories or search for specific items. Want it? Add it to your shopping cart! With me so far? Know that after you have $35 in your cart, shipping is FREE. At checkout, choose from the available dates and leave any special instructions. Delivery always happens early in the morning. Our intercom is broken, so I have the delivery person call my phone for building access and it’s never been a problem. A word from the wise….as of writing this, the checkout section of the website can be a bit glitchy so double check to make sure all the items you want and quantities are correct before finalizing your order.  That’s really all there is to it. Enjoy your effortless experience!
